FENCING Awards 2021 Finalist - Cairn Hill project by PH Fencing

Cairn Hill project by PH Fencing in Dunedoo, NSW.

PH Fencing gave Australian Fencing Awards some key information on their Cairn Hill project.

Challenges involved in the project

  • Our challenge was to install a rural type houseyard fence in steel yet with thought to making it as snake resistant as possible.
  • The terrain varied from flat to sloping to quite steep.
  • Part of the houseyard fence was already fenced so we opted to just add mouse mesh to this section.
  • Paul encountered underground rock in places and resorted to using the jackhammer to get the post holes to depth.
  • The distance to this job was also a challenge, for getting material and our tractor and post driver to site but also involved a considerable amount of daily travel of 180km round trip.

Products used on the project

  • We used 2 metre long 100nb galvanised Medium wall pipe from Duncan Equine, caps at 3 metre centres with welded Oval Cattle rail 115 x 42 x 2mm as a top rail.
  • Due to the sloping ground we couldn't go with a fixed bracket so had to fit and weld each rail.
  • We used Waratah Longlife 7/90/30 and Waratah Flexabel 2.5mm Medium Tension wire as a support for the 900mm x 6.5mm x 6.5mm x .63 White Snake Mesh we attached, 360m all up.
  • The plain wires were run past the posts, attached with Davo's Fencing clips and steel screws. Waratah C-Clips were used to attach the Stocktite to the Flexabel. We used 260mm Garden stakes to secure the snake mesh to the ground.

Outcome of the project

  • Our customers wanted a houseyard that was as safe as could be and they were really pleased with the attention Paul paid to the whole perimeter of the fence, securing as many potential access points as possible.
  • It was a tough job with attention and skill required to get the flow of the top rail working with the lay of the land.

This project by PH Fencing is a finalist in the Australian FENCING Awards 2021.
